Billy and I made a trip to Walmart today (which we haven't done in nearly a year!), and I happened to have my camera! These are some pictures of the exciting things that Walmart in China sells! YAY! Unfortunately my favorite picture, the close up of the dried pig faces, would not upload (I tried several times and it repeatedly failed). So, I leave your imagination to that one! You can click on each of the following pictures to make them big for your viewing pleasure....
These are a selection of dried things... duck, pork, beef, fish... the dried pigs faces are the third thing hanging from the right... yuuuuuummmmmy!!
These are the pig carcasses hanging behind the meat case. Quite appetizing eh!?? Everyone was staring at me because I was taking these pictures. They couldn't figure out what was picture-worthy. :)
Hearts anyone?!!
That's my hand.... I bet you are wondering how many pounds I bought?!?! ..... ;OP
And then there were the turtles.... in America you would have been in a pet store. In Beijing, you are in the meat section. These poor turtles are destined to be on someone's plate for the Chinese New Year (which is Wednesday). Note the tank with live turtles at the bottom/right... the top/left is a cut, bloody turtle in wrapping, surrounded by a black chicken carcass :)
NOTE TO SELF: never bring children to Walmart in China, they might have nightmares......
:)

Well..... it seems that London might be a bit of a stretch right now... I honestly don't know if I am up to continuing the expat life right now. I know that London would be a TOTALLY different ballgame than China, but nonetheless not the motherland. :) Perhaps no one can understand that, but there is just something about your own soil. Even London would be a whole new culture and a whole new set of serious adjustments (unless you are Kim White living on American soil in England :OP). Actually, London does sound fun, but maybe not directly following China. :) Soooo... we are leaning away from London, but we haven't totally shut the door. It's crazy, we are supposed to leave here in two months, and we still don't know what we are doing!!! Of late, we have also considered staying here another 6 months, or even heading to Palo Alto, CA- where Billy's company's head office is! SOOOOO... I will keep you posted. I wanted to awoid taking you all on the rollercoaster of considerations with us. :) Sorry, we just haven't figured life out yet! :)
I was just telling Mike that I hoped you ended up in London because I want to go back there to visit. I totally understand how that must be difficult to think about though too. Selfishly I'd rather visit you in London. BUT there are also nursing travel assignments in Palo Alto, so maybe we could come sleep on your couch. Now you want to live in another country don't you??????????
:) HA! I do find it amusing that the whole family is nearly packed and ready to come visit us in London! We've been in China for almost two years! Billy's entire family has visited-- his dad has come 3 times! We've also had several friends come visit...... but MY family???? Dad and Mom were the only daring ones! Having been to London three times, I'd say China is a MUCH more exciting, adventurous and exhilerating place! London is nice, but not adventurous. :) I guess some people aren't as excited about public urinating, nose-picking, scorpion eating, pig lung soup slurping adventures as I am. ;OP SOOO... to my less-than-adventurous family-- I will keep you posted. Wherever in the world we may end up, our couch is ALWAYS available to you all (for limited, short-stints of time). lol :)
Dang, we miss a couple summers of walking and now we're getting called un-adventurous. Becky's been telling me we're in a rut, but this just hurts. I guess seven thousand miles of walking doesn't count for much with this younger generation. I suppose I'll quote R.W. Emerson just to make me feel better, "The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home... Travelling is a fool's paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places."
I feel better already. Tomorrow the hell with the raisins, I'm thrown dried cranberries in my oatmeal- a whole bunch of 'em!
